ZAGREB, Feb 3 (Hina) - UNPROFOR Force Commander Jean Cot visited
today the town of Mostar where he held meetings with both civilian
and military authorities on the east and the west side of the
Neretva River, stated today General Cot's office in Zagreb.
"The Spanish Battalion who are permanently monitoring the
situation in Mostar report that in the last month over 1400
artillery and mortar rounds were fired by the Croatian side into
East Mostar and 75 artillery and mortar rounds fell into the West
Mostar originating from the B-H forces," said the statement.
It added that "No provocation from Mostar's BiH Forces could
justify the kind of retaliation endured by the population of Mostar
East. Mostar East is under constant artillery and mortar fire and
the residents are constantly threatened by sniper fire,"
according to General Cot.
"The Force Commander therefore earnestly invited General Roso
to show greater restraint in the way he is dealing with the
question of Mostar," said today's statement.
In Jablanica the Force Commander also met the civilian and
military authorities of the BiH, including General Drekovic, a new
arrival in the area who had served previously as commanding officer
in the Bihac Pocket. General Cot visited un-announced the refugees
of Tito Museum in Jablanica and was delighted to realize that
there, both Croats and Moslem refugees were treated equally, said
the same report on Cot's visit to Mostar and Jablanica.
