EIGHT KILLED, 57 WOUNDED IN YESTERDAY'S SERB ATTACKS ON SARAJEVO

SARAJEVO, May 25 (Hina) - Eight people were killed and 57 were wounded in yesterday's Serb attacks on Sarajevo, according to a Bosnian Health Ministry report. Considerable material damage was done to civilian buildings and UN military observers confirmed that re-modelled flying bombs had been fired on various parts of the city. Similar weapons had been used in attacks on Bihac. A re-modelled flying bomb weighs 250 kg and is fitted with four rocket launchers. According to a UN spokesman, it is an imprecise weapon, intended for mass destruction. Such a bomb exploded yesterday in the vicinity of Bosnian Television, killing one and severely wounding five civilians. The bomb had probably been fired from the Serb stronghold in Lukavica barracks. Along with cannons Serbs also used at least two tanks in yesterday's attacks. They used at least one of these tanks for firing shells filled with phosphorus. Serbs fired 18 mortar and 15 tank shells from a UN controlled heavy-weapon depot at Poljine. One mortar shell was fired early this morning. UN spokesman said that, despite fierce cannon and infantry attacks, Serbs did not succeed to gain any ground in Sarajevo. They also failed to capture Bosnian army bunkers on Debelo Brdo which was obviously the main aim of yesterday's attacks. (hina) jn rm 251437 MET may 95
