CATHOLIC CHURCHES IN YUGOSLAVIA TARGET OF TERRORIST ATTACKS

BELGRADE, May 24 (Hina) - The number of terrorist attacks on Catholic churches in the so-called Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro) has increased. The latest incident happened in Vasica, near Sid, where a Catholic church was blown up on the night of May 21. On the night between May 19 and 20, a bomb was thrown into the front yard of a Catholic church in Sremska Mitrovica. Terror started on the night between May 4 and 5, when a church in Hrtkovci was destroyed by explosion. The vestry was destroyed in the fire and the church was plundered. On the night between May 5 and 6, the newly-erected cross in the village of Bac was blown up. Twelve gravestones were desecrated and a cross was torn down at a Catholic graveyard in Surcin, just outside Belgrade. According to the Croatian Office in Belgrade, the police started an investigation only after the latest vandalism in Surcin.
