ZAGREB, May 18 (Hina) - Croatian rebel Serbs fired at two UN-
labelled helicopters Wednesday, UN spokesman in Zagreb Christopher
Gunness told the press-conference today, reporting no casualties
nor damage.
The number of Croatian and rebel Serb troops in UN patrolled
buffer zones, following the Croatian significant withdrawal out of
the sectors South and East, Gunness said.
In the separation zone of the former sector North, there were
still a total of 1,200 Croatian army troops, opposed to 1,300 rebel
Serb troops. Southern buffer contained 40 Croat and 100 rebel Serb
soldiers, while another 100 Croat and 200 to 300 Serb troops were
facing each other in the former sector East.
UN military spokesman Col. Walt Natynczyk said that new
fighting around the village of Ripac, south-east of Bihac in
northwestern Bosnia, moved new scores of Serb refugees from the
area.
About 4,000 refugees were heading for Banja Luka, while
another 2,000 had crossed to Croatia, sector South, among them
1,500 civilians and 500 Bosnian and Croatian Serb troops, Natynczyk
said.
