CROATIAN PARLIAMENT PASSES LABOUR BILL

ZAGREB, May 17 (Hina) - All 72 representatives of the Croatian Parliament House of Representatives tonight unanimously accepted the Labour Relations Bill. The Bill and its amendments were put to the vote without the presence of opposition representatives who left the session. The voting was attended by union and employers' representatives. The voting on 136 amendments passed quickly, because the ruling party representatives supported Government's positions on the amendments. Out of 136 amendments proposed by representatives, parties' benches and parliamentary committees, the Government accepted 22 amendments, and partly accepted 18 amendments. After their negotiations with labour unions, the Government added its 21 amendments to this law. According to the Act, labour relation is established after a contract between employer and employee is signed and this contract is binding until one of the signatories cancels it. The Labour Act regulates working hours, salaries, holidays, protection of maternity rights, revocation of work contract, participation of employees in decision-making, labour and employers' union activity, work agreement, strikes and dismissals.
