SARAJEVO, May 17 (Hina) - Serb forces this morning launched an
artillery attack on the UN-designated safe zone of Bihac in north-
western Bosnia.
According to UN military observers, downtown Bihac was hit by
ten cannon shells. The observers did not know what were the
consequences of the attack, but Sarajevo radio spoke of several
casualties and considerable material damage.
According to UN sources, the Bosnian army 5th corps was
advancing on Serb-occupied Bosanska Krupa, seizing control of the
Krupa road and the Grabez Plateau.
The UN assumed that today's attack on Bihac had been launched
in retaliation for Serb losses on the Grabez plateau.
The Bosnian army yesterday attempted to break through Serb
lines on Mt Bucimici, west of Bosanska Krupa. The UN was unable to
say anything as to the outcome of this operation, but did count 337
detonations in the area.
The Velika Kladusa area was comparatively calm.
