SARAJEVO, May 16 (Hina) - The clashes between Bosnian army and
Bosnian Serb forces that blew up Tuesday morning calmed the same
afternoon.
UN observers said that minor skirmishes continued after 14.00
hours in the Old Town area, at the Serb-controlled Jewish Cemetery,
on highland points skirting the city, such as eastern Debelo Brdo
and northern Spicasta stijena, as well as at two bridges separating
sides in city proper.
UN observers have counted over 900 blasts since 09.00 hours,
in the wider city area. Spokesman Gy Vinnet confirmed two persons
were killed while at least eight wounded.
In the morning hours Serbs had plundered to UN-controlled
weapons depot at northern outskirts of Poljine, firing four or five
mortar shells stored there, UN said. After that they had withdrawn
but blocked the entrance to the depot, leaving mines planted along
the access road.
Serb forces were also firing at the road over Mt. Igman
connecting Sarajevo with the world. UN French peacekeepers reported
at least two explosions close to their observation post.
UN spokesman said no NATO planes were flying over Sarajevo
today.
