BOSNIAN PRESIDENCY PROPOSES DEMILITARIZATION OF SARAJEVO

SARAJEVO, April 11 (Hina) - Bosnian Presidency today called on the UN and NATO to take adequate measures to prevent Bosnian Serbs from attacking Sarajevo and to declare a demilitarized area within a 20 km-radius of the city. Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic explained in his statement for the Bosnian television that the proposal on the demilitarization included withdrawing both Bosnian army and Serb troops and delivering the city to UN and joint police forces, organized on the parity principle. Izetbegovic said that in case Serbs launched new attacks on the city, the Bosnian army would take measures to lift the blockade, whatever the cost. Bosnian Presidency concluded not to conduct any new negotiations with the Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic until Serbs accepted the Contact Group plan. (hina) rm 112136 MET apr 95
