OSIJEK, April 6 (Hina) - The head of the Croatian Association of
Displaced Persons, Mato Simic, today invited the UN Security
Council Secretary General, Boutros Boutros-Ghali, to attend the 3rd
conference of the Association which is to be held on April 8 in
Zagreb.
Simic said in his letter to Boutros-Ghali that the Association
was established due to the United Nation's ineffectiveness.
There were 197,000 displaced persons in Croatia and about
100,000 in foreign countries, while 2,820 persons were still
missing, Simic said.
He reminded Boutros-Ghali that despite the UN presence, 600
people had been killed and about 12.000 people had been expelled
from the UN-protected areas.
Displaced persons expected that operational mechanisms of UN
Security Council resolution 981 would not repeat the mistake of
prolonging the 'status quo' in Croatia, Simic said.
