ZAGREB, April 3 (Hina) - In a statement of today, the Croatian
Human Rights Committee (HHO) deals with a recent ruling of the
Constitutional Court which overturned a decision of the State
Judiciary Council on the appointment of the Supreme Court judges.
"For the second time in last few weeks the Constitutional
Court was forced to intervene in order to prevent illegal
procedures of the State Judiciary Council", says the Statement.
The implementation of this ruling can not be considered a
guarantee for further proper functioning of the judicial system "as
long as the State Judiciary Council is functioning with its present
members", says the Statement.
The Croatian Human Rights Committee holds that the restoration
of confidence in Croatian judicial system is possible only on
condition that all members of the State Judiciary Council and the
president of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Croatia resign
from their positions.
The Committee also holds that a parliamentary discussion
should be held on Judiciary Council's "repeated illegal" procedures
and possible changes to the State Judiciary Council Law.
The Statement was signed by the Committee's President, Ivan
Zvonimir Cicak.
