UPPER HOUSE SUPPORTS STRATEGY OF DEVELOPING CROATIAN AGRICULTURE

ZAGREB, March 8 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament House of Counties today supported the strategy of developing the Croatian agriculture. The deputies supported the document aimed at stimulating the more efficient production and marketing of agricultural products. The document put a special emphasis on the family smallholdings. Several deputies of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party asked about methods for restoring agriculture in the areas which were or are still occupied, and were interested in the help to farmers from such zones. Two deputies of the opposition Croatian Social and Liberal Party (HSLS), Damir Zoric and Krunoslav Oreskovic, expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that Croatia was importing agricultural products which it has in sufficient quantities and which are of good quality. A deputy of the Croatian Independent Democrats (HND), Stjepan Camagajevac, requested about the restructuring of agricultural estates and integrated factory farms. Two HDZ deputies, Robert Beranic and Jadranko Markov, urged that more attention should be paid to fisheries and islands. Markov demanded that a special strategy should be drawn up for the agricultural development on the islands and a particular parliamentary committee for islands be established as well.
