SARAJEVO, Jan 26 (Hina) - The incoming UNPROFOR Commander in
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Gen. Rupert Smith, who took over from Gen. Rose
on Tuesday, today arrived in Sarajevo.
In a brief statement to reporters, the new commander defined
the "delivery of aid to the unhappy people in Bosnia who had
suffered so much" as UNPROFOR's chief task in the next period.
Another important aspect of UNPROFOR's role was to work on the
restoration of lasting peace, taking the four-month truce as a
starting point.
Smith said Rose had given him no advice on what he should do
next.
"He told me what he had done and why," Smith said.
