ZAGREB, Jan 14 (hina) - Croatian Development and Reconstruction
Minister, Jure Radic says some 35,000 displaced people whose houses
were free and secure, could return home.
His comment was carried in an interview published in today's
Zagreb daily, Vecernji List.
Radic said the beginning of February would see the start of a
major development project for 10,000 people.
Radic siad the first phase, which would be set in motion by
the Development and Reconstruction Ministry, would involve the
reconstruction of entire regions and villages where minimal but
necessary sanitary measures would be established.
The second phase would involve providing displaced people with
credit so that they'd be able to work on the necessary internal
structures of their homes. The credit would be easy to pay and
strictly controlled.
If the entire State budget in the next four years was spent on
reconstruction, it would only cover direct war damage, which comes
to around one hundred billion Kunas, Radic said. This was it was
hoped that there'd be foreign credit, concessions and donations.
Asked if there were any plans to redevelop Croatian areas
which were occupied, Radic said:"Such areas are not regarded as
'other' Croatian territory."
