A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON FRIDAY

ZAGREB, Jan 13 (Hina) - Today's VJESNIK devotes its front page to President Tudjman's decision to end the UN mandate in Croatia on March 31, under the headline "UNPROFOR Fired, Impetus for Talks." Vjesnik carries reports on foreign responses to the decision, under the following headlines: "United States - Mandate Should Be Extended", "Italy - Concern and Understanding", "Russia - Understanding for Croatia's Position", "France - Croatia Does Not Want a Status Quo", "Great Britain - Frustrated With Inefficiency" and "Bosnia-Herzegovina - Croatia Can Wait No Longer." "I Sympathise with Desperate Refugees" is the headline of an interview with Kai Eide, ambassador to the International Conference on the Former Yugoslavia, who is to vacate his post after 14 months. The other Zagreb-based daily, VECERNJI LIST, runs a comment piece by its editor-in-chief on the Croatian decision to terminate the UN mandate, under the headline: "Firing UNPROFOR Does Not Mean War." Vecernji List carries an article on President Tudjman's talks with international mediators Owen and Stoltenberg. The paper includes a commentary on squabbles within the Moslem-led Democration Action Party (SDA) in Bosnia, headlined "Silajdzic On His Own." "The Bosnian premier is on his own in the Bosnian Moslem leadership. His relationship with Ganic (a Presidency member) is at an all-time low and he is openly opposed by some ministers," the article said. (hina) mm vm sd 131219 MET jan 95
