There were currently 39,000 troops deployed in Bosnia-
Herzegovina, Boudreau said.
The most numerous is the multinational "North" division, based
in Tuzla. This 13,500-strong body is commanded by US general Miegs.
The "Southeast" division, based in the Mostar area, currently
numbers 12,100 troops, while the multinational Banja Luka-based
"Southwest" division, numbers 9,500 troops. These figures refer to
combat units only.
The gradual reduction in the number of international troops
was progressing in accordance with plans for NATO's new role in
Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1997, Boudreau said.
