Pangalos applauded Croatia's admission into the Council of
Europe, stressing that his country would continue to support
Croatia's accession into other European integrations.
Tudjman supported the constructive and positive role of Greece
in resolving the crisis in the region of former Yugoslavia, adding
that he believed that good bilateral political relations would
result in greater economic cooperation between the two countries.
Expressing his conviction that the process of peaceful
reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area would end successfully,
Tudjman said that Croatia, with the cooperation of Europe and the
United States, would continue to fully support the implementation
of the Washington and Dayton agreements, especially the
strengthening of the Bosnian federation and its ties with Croatia.
To that extent, we would continue our constructive role in the
establishment of permanent peace and stability in this part of
Europe, as well as to develop good neighbourly relations, but we
are not interested in accessing regional integrations with
countries of the former Yugoslavia on out way to Europe, Tudjman
said.
Pangalos reiterated the invitation of the Greek President
Stephanopulos that Tudjman visit Greece.
Besides President Tudjman, present at the talks were also
Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic, Presidential Chief-of-Staff
Ivo Sanader, Presidential advisor for foreign affairs Zeljko Matic
and Croatian Ambassador to Greece, Ivica Mastruko.
