Commodore Paul Danks, Commander of Destroyer Squadron 20
within the U.S. Navy Sixth Fleet, and Captain David C. Beam,
Commander the Klakring frigate, responded to journalists' questions
at the ship.
Stressing that the USS Klakring was the first U.S naval ship
to visit the independent Republic of Croatia, Commodore Danks
voiced satisfaction with the visit and said he was impressed with
Dubrovnik, its history, and particularly with its citizens.
"Not only a local population but also the Croatian Navy
Command welcomed us warmly, and we would like to go sightseeing in
Dubrovnik very much, meet its citizens and gain insight into its
culture," Commodore Danks said.
The frigate commander Beam invited Dubrovnik citizens to tour
the ship in the next two days.
Dubrovnik-Neretva County Prefect Jure Buric and Dubrovnik
Mayor received the Commodore Danks and Captain Beam on Tuesday
afternoon.
The U.S. Navy high-ranking officers also met Croatian Major-
General Milivoj Petkovic and Croatian Naval officer Ante Urlic at
the Ston-based headquarters.
