CROATIAN PARLIAMENT PRESIDENT RECEIVES GERMAN AMBASSADOR

ZAGREB, Sept 17 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament president Vlatko Pavletic on Tuesday received the newly-appointed German ambassador to Croatia, Volker Haak. Speaking of the importance of the recently signed agreement on the normalization of relations between Croatia and Yugoslavia, Pavletic said that it was only a framework within which special issues would be solved in the course of time. Pavletic stressed that the normalization agreement would help resolve a priority political issue, the peaceful reintegration of Serb-held eastern Croatia. He reiterated the government's view that the issue of Serb autonomy in Croatia "was taken off the agenda" and that the Serb community could enjoy all minority rights envisaged by Croatian legislation. The lower house of the Croatian parliament was meeting on Wednesday to discuss a bill granting amnesty to Serb rebels, the normalization agreement with Yugoslavia, and the lifting of sanactions against Yugoslavia, Pavletic said Haak said that he agreed with the estimate of President Franjo Tudjman that the importance of the normalization of Croatian-Serbian relations could be compared to the significance of the post-World War Two normalization of German-French relations for entire Europe. Haak empahsized German support for the peaceful reintegration of the Danube river area and said that Germany had provided a loan of DM 5 million for the development of medium-size and small enterprises.
