He also said that Ukraine was interested in economic
cooperation with Croatia as well as in the development of
political, scientific and cultural relations.
'Although there are objective problems in the field of
economy, prospects for the improvement of our cooperation are
good', Croatian Foreign Minister Granic said, adding that one of
the main problems was the financing of possible projects, since
both Croatia and Ukraine were in transition.
During the visit of the Croatian state delegation, the two
countries will sign an agreement on the avoidance of double
taxation and cooperation in the areas of tourism and air transport.
Today's talks also tackled the completion of the UNTAES
mandate in Croatia. The Ukrainian UNTAES soldiers would remain in
the area of eastern Slavonia within the UNTAES mandate, Granic
said.
There are considerable potentials for the establishment of
cooperation in the areas of shipbuilding industry, tourism and
agriculture. Because of its large demand for power sources, Ukraine
is very interested in the further construction of the Adriatic
pipeline via Hungary.
The Croatian state delegation includes representatives of the
Croatian companies 'Hrvatska brodogradnja', 'Brodotrogir', 'Pliva',
'INA', 'Montmontaza-inzenjering' and 'Herbos'.
During his two-day official visit to Kiev, Granic will meet
the Ukrainian defence minister, government and parliament officials
and the Ukrainian President Leonid Kucma.
Granic's delegation also includes his aides Hido Biscevic and
Spomenka Cek, Deputy Tourism Minister Vinka Cetinski and the
Croatian Ambassador to Ukraine, Djuro Vidmarevic.
Ukraine was the first U.N. member state to recognize Croatia
in 1991. Since the declaration of its independence in August the
same year, Ukraine has become a member of many international
organisations. Since 1992, Ukrainian troops are deployed in Bosnia
and Croatia as part of international peace forces.
