September general elections. #L#
IFOR spokesman Max Marriner on Saturday named those critical
areas - Velika Kladusa, Prijedor, Brcko, Doboj, Jajce, Srebrenica,
Novi Travnik, Vitez, Busovaca, Fojnica, Kiseljak and Stolac.
It was expected that a large number of displaced persons and
refugees would arrive in those areas on the election day, which
could cause incidents, Marriner said, adding that tension could
arise in case someone tried to prevent those people from voting in
their pre-war places of residence.
Another 13 municipalities were considered potentially
critical. Those are Cazin, Bosanski Novi, Banja Luka, Teslic,
Tesanj, Zepce, Vares, Mostar, Nevesinje, Capljina, Rogatica,
Zvornik and Ugljevik.
The provision of security conditions for elections was the
task of local police forces, Marriner said, adding that IFOR was
ready to provide support in case of major incidents. Special
operative headquarters within the OSCE mission was still
considering concrete security measures which could be taken on the
election day, Marriner said.
