MLJET, Aug 14 (Hina) - Prince Charles of Wales today visited the
Mljet Island in the company of Croatian Prime Minister Zlatko
Matesa, Tourism Minister Niko Bulic and British Ambassador to
Croatia Gavin Hewitt.
The distinguished guest visited the National Park and the 12-
century Benedictine abbey.
"This visit came about after Prince Charles visited Dubrovnik
in February, when he expressed the wish to see that unique island
which was not exposed to mass tourism," Prime Minister Matesa said.
"Since His Royal Highess has lately been involved in several
projects which have to do with environmental protection and
tourism, his visit to Mljet is an ideal opportunity and I hope that
this island will become a pilot project for developing tourism in a
protected environment," he said.
The Prince of Wales is to return to Britain today.
