SARAJEVO, August 8 (Hina) - A Bosniak arrested by the Serb police
for illegal possession of arms in Banja Luka on 31 July, died in
prison as a result of beating, spokesman for the international
police forces in Sarajevo Patrick Swenson said on Thursday.
Swenson said that two days after the arrest, the Serb police
informed the deceased's wife that the causes of death were unknown.
The international police requested an inquiry and a Banja Luka
pathologist determined that the causes of death were due to
numerous interior lesions and bleeding caused by brutal beating.
The local court in Banja Luka was demanded to start an
investigation and sentence the perpetrators of this murder.
UNHCR spokesman Kris Janowski warned that this case confirmed
the extremely difficult position of ethnic minority groups in Banja
Luka. 31 Bosniaks forced out of their homes by Serb refugees had
still not returned after two months, Janowski said, adding that
most decided to leave for good this area controlled by Bosnian
Serbs.
