GRANIC HOLDS TALKS WITH EU 3-MAN GROUP OF AMBASSADORS - STATEMENT

ZAGREB, August 1 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic on Thursday received the European Union three-man group of ambassadors accredited to Croatia, the Croatian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. Granic informed the ambassadors of the meeting between Croatian President Franjo Tudjman and the vice-president of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina Ejup Ganic and of the session of the Defense and National Security Council, which discussed the situation in the Bosnian Federation. The Croatian Foreign Minister acquainted the ambassadors with the steps Croatia was undertaking in order to find a compromising solution as regarded the functioning of the city administration in Mostar after the elections for the City Council and until a final verdict of the Constitutional Court of the Federation of Bosnia- Herzegovina. The initiative on the transformation of the Croatian Republic of Herzeg Bosnia into organs of the Federation was evaluated positively, and Granic pointed out the necessity to strengthen the institutions of the Federation and the organs of cantonal authorities, as well as the transfer of authority from the government of Bosnia-Herzegovina to the government of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina. The ambassadors were also informed of the talks President Tudjman held with his Bosnian counterpart Alija Izetbegovic, who agreed that problems between Croats and Bosniacs must be solved with an open dialogue between representatives of the two peoples, within the Federation Forum and the Council for Cooperation of the Republic of Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Bosnian Federation.
