PRISTINA, July 11 (Hina) - A Serbian policeman was seriously
wounded in Podujevo in Kosovo province on Thursday when an
unidentified assailant opened fire at him.
Officer Sredoje Radovic was hit in the legs by six
bullets and was taken to a clinic in the provincial capital
Pristina. He was later transferred to the Army Medical Centre in
Belgrade for further treatment.
The Kosovo Information Centre in Pristina said that the
local Albanian population in the Podujevo area feared a new wave
of Serbian police violence against ethnic Albanians, who make up
90 per cent of Kosovo's population.
A Serbian policeman was wounded in an attack on a
Podujevo police station last month, after which about 30
Albanians were exposed to harrassment.
