He said that Wednesday's signing of a contract between
Croatia's "Adriatic Pipeline" and Yugoslav "NIS-Jugopetrol" oil
companies on the transport of crude oil from Omisalj on the
northern Adriatic island of Krk to Serbian refineries at Pancevo
and Novi Sad were "great progress in the normalization of
relations" and that talks on river and air transport were being
held.
Asked whether the Prevlaka peninsula was the only and biggest
obstacle in the normalization of relations between the two
countries, Bulajic said that it "is the main obstacle to the
realization of our political relations".
"We cannot yield Prevlaka to Croatia because of its strategic
importance," Bulajic said.
The Prevlaka peninsula is Croatia's southernmost tip,
bordering with Montenegro.
After the pullout of Yugoslav occupation forces, the strategic
area was demilitarized and placed under UN control.
Yugoslav Premier Radoje Kontic stressed that the normalization
of relations between Yugoslavia and other countries in the region
of former Yugoslavia was the most important issue.
