In Osijek they were welcomed by the Osijek County prefect
Branimir Glavas, head of the Administration for Sailing Safety with
the Maritime Affairs, Transport and Communications Ministry,
Mihajlo Soldra, and the director of the Osijek port "Transit", Jozo
Kopilas.
Thanking both sides for the excellent cooperation, Klein said
that the opening of the Drava river to traffic would contribute to
the economic recovery of the region and would open new jobs.
The opening of Osijek towards the Danube river would enable
the reconstruction of Vukovar, and thus get another port which
would be of use to all people, Klein said.
Head of the Croatian government Office for the Temporary
Administration for the Establishment of Croatian Authority in the
Croatian Danubian area, Ivica Vrkic stressed that the opening of
road, railway and now river traffic was the best sign that "our
people have begun to return to their homes at last."
