SARAJEVO, June 19 (Hina) - The International Community would decide
on a possible extension of the mandate of the NATO-led Peace
Implementation Force after elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina, when
prospects for short and medium-term stability in the country were
estimated, IFOR Commander for Northwestern Bosnia, General Michael
Jackson, told a press conference in Sarajevo on Wednesday.
The delay of elections announced for September would hamper
the strengthening of peace in the country.
Jackson pointed out that conditions on the field had improved
considerably in the last months and that even points at issue, such
as freedom of movement, had been worked on more than was generally
believed.
Jackson concluded by saying that he did not believe conflicts
in Bosnia-Herzegovina would recommence.
