The Serb independent paper was presented in the facilities of
the Serb cultural society 'Prosvjeta' by Milorad Pupovac, on behalf
of the publisher, and Boris Raseta, the paper's editor-in-chief.
The name of the paper was chosen because of the desire for
'full integration of the Serb minority into Croatian society, but
with the preservation of its identity', Pupovac said. 'We want the
paper to be a means of the normalization of the Croat-Serb
relations and our contribution to the development of civil society
in Croatia', Pupovac said.
Croatian Vice Premier Ljerka Mintas-Hodak greeted the opening
of the paper, adding that 'Identitet' had been financially
supported by the Croatian government.
Dragan Veselinovic, head of the Yugoslav Bureau in Zagreb
supported the integration of Serbs into Croatian society with the
preservation of their identity.
The presentation of the first issue of 'Identitet' was also
attended by the representatives from the U.S., German, French,
British and Belgian embassies in Zagreb.
Most of the articles are written in Latin script while the
editorial and several articles are written in Cyrillic script. The
first issue of the paper also brings a dossier entitled 'Return'.
The main topic of the dossier is the return of Serb refugees to
Croatia.
