SARAJEVO, May 14 (Hina) - Miners in the "Kakanj" brown coal mine in
central Bosnia on Tuesday staged a strike and joined miners of the
"Djurdjevik" mine in demanding a rise in wages.
A member of the Union of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Enver Celik, told
reporters that the main reason for the strike was incompatibility
in miners' wages and those of the state administration employees.

The President of the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Alija
Izetbegovic, on Tuesday received a delegation of "Djurdjevik"
miners who began striking three days ago.
A statement from Izetbegovic's Office said that he had fully
supported the miners' demands.
The president of the "Djurdjevik" Miners' Strike Committee,
Salkan Agic, told reporters after the meeting with Izetbegovic that
the miners asked for DM 350 in monthly wages.
He added that the average wage of miners working in brown coal
mines in Bosnia-Herzegovina was DM 83.
