ZAGREB, May 9 (Hina) - A survey of public opinion conducted this year with 1473 interviewees from all Croatian regions showed that the majority of Croats were pro-Europe oriented and that a skepticism and phobia of Europe were not dominant in Croatian society. #L# The survey is conducted every three months by "Privredni Vjesnik" and "Studio Weber" for the Croatian Chamber of Commerce. In answer to the question about the period of time in which Croatia should make a bid to be admitted into the European Union, this year's survey showed that 64 per cent of interviewees thought Croatia should make its bid now. Three per cent thought Croatia should not make such a bid, 26 per cent thought that it should happen within five years, while seven per cent were for a period of ten years. According to the survey, those who think that Croatia should not make a bid to be admitted into the European Union, or should do it in due time, can be divided into two groups, according to the reasons they gave. The first are the Croatian "autochtonists" who think that by being admitted into the European Union Croatia would lose a part of its state, national and moral individuality. The other group is that of the "Euro-realists", who think that Croatia does not fulfill all European political, democratic and economic standards. (hina) ha 092205 MET may 96
