UNESCO EXPERTS VISIT PLITVICE LAKES

PLITVICE LAKES, May 7 (Hina) - A UNESCO mission led by US national parks expert Robert C. Milne, is visiting the Plitvice National Park to assess needs for expert and material assistance in revitalising tourism. The mission, apppointed at Croatia's request, includes experts from Germany, Canada, Norway, Austria and Slovenia. The Plitvice National Park, situated 100 kms South of Zagreb, is renowned for its sixteen lakes connected by waterfalls. Serb occupation put the park on the UNESCO list of the world's most threatened nature reserves in 1992. Plitvice was liberated last summer, the area was cleared of mines and some of the hotels have already been opened. A panel to discuss projects for the Park's reconstruction and development will take place on Thursday. (hina) jn as 071206 MET may 96
