The programme includes 55 plays and musical performances.
In keeping with tradition, there will be performances of
"Dundo Maroje", by Renaissance Dubrovnik playwright Marin Drzic,
and Shakespeare's "Hamlet". The main attraction on the stage would
be Goethe's "Iphigenia at Tauris", performed by the festival's
drama troup. The play will be performed at the Dubrovnik festival
after 40 years.
The festival will host foreign artists too, including famous
soprano Lucia Alberti, tenor Giorgio Surjan, cellist Antonio
Meneses and pianist Aldo Ciccolini. The Swedish Royal Drama Theatre
will give a concert performance of "Romeo and Juliet" to
Renaissance and carnival music.
Young Croatian cellist and award winner, Monika Leskovar, and
big Croatian orchestras will also take part at the festival. The
Split Opera will perform "Stanac", by Marin Drzic and Jakov
Gotovac.
The musical performances, for which the Ministry of Culture
secured 2 million kunas (about 595,000 German marks), will mark two
world anniversaries, that of Anton Bruckner and Dmitri
Shostakovich.
