WASHINGTON, 2 April (Hina) - Achievements that have been made in
BH after the signing of the Dayton accord have been exceptional,
said High Representative for BH Carld Bildt in Washington
Tuesday.
"Compared to the situation six or 12 months ago, progress
has been spectacular," Bildt told a press briefing at the
National Press Club.
Arms have been withdrawn, troops have gone back to the
barracks and people move freely the towns and outside of them, he
said next.
Over the past two days Bildt discussed in Washington
implementation of the Dayton accord with the US vice president,
president Clinton's national security advisor and officials of
the State Department and the Pentagon. .
"(Through reconstruction) we will, and that is the most
important part of our policy, try to reintegrate the country as
much as possible", said Bildt. Over the next three to four years
BH will need about five billion US $ in reconstruction aid from
the international community.
"It is important to get as much as possible, as soon as
possible", said Bildt. He pointed that out of the 1.8 billion US
$ required for this year only 600 million US $ have been actually
collected.
That is why he is preparing to visit Japan, after his visit
to Washington and New York, where he is due to meet with UN
officials.
