OPATIJA, March 28 (Hina) - Croatian veterinarians said at a
symposium which opened in the northern Adriatic resort of Opatija
on Thursday that not a single case of "mad cow" disease had been
registered in Croatia.
Croatia had not imported beef from England since 1994 and it
imposed a ban on beef import from that country, the symposium
heard.
Veterinarians rejected the possibility of infected beef
being imported into Croatia via IFOR suppliers or NATO troops
deployed in the country.
The director of the veterinary department at the Ministry of
Agriculture and Forestry, Marko Tadic, said that Croatia now had
the opportunity to export its high-quality beef to foreign
markets.
