ZAGREB, March 27 (Hina) - The House of Representatives this morning
adopted a 22-item agenda, proposed by the President of the
Parliament, Vlatko Pavletic. #L#
A vote on whether the agenda should include two bills tabled
by the Opposition - amendments to the Units of Local Government and
Self-Government Act and the City of Zagreb Act - was postponed till
Friday.
Justifying the need to include these two bills into this
session's agenda, Zdravko Tomac (Social Democratic Party) said that
the four-month 'Zagreb Mayor crisis' had been caused, in part, by
certain provisions contained in the two acts, which the amendments
laid before the House proposed to change.
The key point of the amendments is to "revoke the provisions
giving the President the authority to confirm the Mayor of the City
of Zagreb and county prefects."
"As long as these laws stand as they are, the crisis won't be
resolved," Thomac prophesied.
"It won't even be resolved by another election," he said,
adding that a democratic solution would be in the best interests of
the Croatian state.
