decision about constructing such plants on the Croatian coast. #L#
The Croatian Government requested the Croatian Electric
Utility to complete the construction of the "Plomin II" thermo-
electric power plant on the northern Adriatic coast, by the year
1998. The Government is also planning the construction of another
thermo-nuclear plant in Obrovac (central Adriatic coast).
Green activists from Croatia and Slovenia, who rallied on
Monday in the northern Adriatic town of Labin, issued a statement
in which they said that the Government's decision had been made
rashly, without hard data to support it and without consulting
public opinion.
Croatian environmentalists are advocating that development be
based on gas, which is ecologically safe.
