A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON WEDNESDAY

ZAGREB, Jan 24 (Hina) - Today's VJESNIK devotes the front page to a report from Strasbourg, where the Foreign Minister, Mate Granic, is conducting talks with Council of Europe officials. "Minister Granic described the atmosphere as 'the best since the beginning of the Strasbourg negotiations' and the talks themselves as 'very useful and constructive'," the article says. Another front-page article deals with the talks on the future arrangement of the city of Mostar. "The Croats are satisfied with the solution that has been offered," the article says. A comment piece by Maja Freundlich discusses reports that the CIA is investigating Serbian President Milosevic's responsibilty for war crimes. The middle page is devoted to the "Position of Youth in Croatian Society." VECERNJI LIST carries an interview with Mislav Jezic, the first vice-president of the Pan-European Union and the chief organiser of an exhibition on Croatian culture which opened yesterday at the European Parliament. "Croatia Is Becoming Recognisable," Jezic said, adding that Croatian culture had facilitated Croatia's admittance to the European Parliament. The paper outlines the main points of the Privatisation Bill which has been tabled for the next Parliament session. Among other things, the article specifies that free shares would be distributed to about 300,000 homeland war victims. (hina) mm as 241049 MET jan 96
