A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON MONDAY

ZAGREB, Jan 22 (Hina) - "The Election Fever Starts", is a front- page headline of VJESNIK for an article on the situation in Sarajevo. The author of the article, Mario Marusic, writes that commotion about the establishment of the governments of the Federation and the Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina is being in full swing, while statements by Silajdzic are particularly mirroring the severe battles inside the Bosniac (SDA party) leadership where some cannot be still reconciled with many agreement. Another journalist, Miroslava Rozankovic, writes why the return of Croatian displaced people has slowed down. The daily carries an interview with the German Ambassador to Croatia, Horst Weisel, who underlines that "the basis for good relations between Croatia and Germany already exists." The Ambassador Weisel comments on possibilities of a peace settlement in this region following the Dayton accords. The other Zagreb-based daily VECERNJI LIST reports on disagreement in negotiations between the Croatian Government, employers and trade unions. Trade unions insist that the Government should rescind the decree on salaries, although it can be seen that the Government has not too much interfered with the payment in firms, according to estimates issued by state institutions for observing salaries. VECERNJI LIST publishes an interview with an aide to the Croatian Foreign Minister, Hido Biscevic. "Last week several important events happened, which ensured the beginning of a process about which we can speak with the full certainty - it is a process of the one-year peaceful reintegration of the occupied Croatian areas," Biscevic said. A commentator, Deana Knezevic, deals with latest initiatives to prevent unlawfulness in the state. (hina) mm mms 221119 MET jan 96
