ZAGREB, Jan 9 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on
Tuesday received Zagreb City Assembly Chairman Zdravko Tomac and
Zagreb Mayor Branko Miksa, the Presidential Office said in a
statement.
President Tudjman asked them to unconditionally ensure
the effective work of the city authorities in line with the
Constitution and law until the election and confirmation of a new
mayor.
The President also drew attention to the unacceptability
of ideas to restore through decisions of the Assembly and other
local government bodies symbols of the former political system
which had been unanimously renounced by the Croatian people in
1990.
Tomac and Miksa said they were pleased with the meeting,
demonstrating full willingness to implement state policy in
accordance with the Constitution and law to the benefit of the
citizens of Zagreb.
The meeting was also attended by Presidential Chief of
Staff Ivo Sanader, Internal Policy Adviser Ivic Pasalic and Aide-
de-Camp Major General Kresimir Kaspar, the statement said.
