ZAGREB, Dec 23 (Hina) - President of the Croatian Serb People's
Party (SNS), Milan Djukic, said Tuesday that the UN Transitional
Administration for Croatia's eastern Slavonia area (UNTAES)was
"leaving the Danube region in the most critical of moments and had
completed the easiest task".
The UNTAES had only executed the territorial reintegration of the
Danubian area and enabled the establishment of the Croatian legal
system in the Danube river region, and "the international community
obviously does not care about the reintegration of the residents,"
Djukic told a news conference.
According to him, the Croatian government still has to implement
two thirds of its committments from the Erdut Agreement.
Since the UNTAES's arrival, 35,000 to 40,000 people have left the
Danubian area, and the SNS estimates that another 10,000 to 15,000
are to leave the region after the UNTAES's departure.
Deputy president of the SNS, Nedjeljko Visnjic, called on the Serb
population in the Danubian area not to leave their homes, and to try
to reintegrate into Croatian society.
