ZAGREB, Dec 16 (Hina) - Ivo Padovan was elected president of the
Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences (HAZU) on Tuesday, replacing
Ivan Supek.
Miroslav Begovic and Milan Mogus were elected vice presidents while
Andrija Kastelan became secretary.
Padovan received 91 votes and his opponent, Vlatko Silobrcic, 35.
Padovan was born on the southern Adriatic island of Korcula in 1922.
He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb. He was elected
an associate member of the Academy in 1975 and became a full member
in 1983.
