VIENNA, 11 Dec (Hina) - The Austrian-Croatian Society on Wednesday
presented former Vienna Mayor Helmut Zilk with its traditional
award, acknowledging his contribution to the establishment of
Croatia's independence and its international recognition, a
statement from the Austrian-Croatian Society said.
Thanking for the award, Zilk said that, despite the views of his
Socialist Party, he had advocated the idea that small peoples who
were fighting for their independence had to be helped.
The same award was also presented to Karl Gustav Stroehm,
correspondent of 'Die Welt', manager of Danube Radio
International, Paul Lendvai, the action 'Neighbour in Need',
correspondent of 'Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung' Viktor Meier,
the world head of Styria Josef Kreiner and three journalists of
'Kronen Zeitung' - Ernst Trost, Kurt Seinitz and Claus Pandi.
