UN RAPPORTEUR VISITS LIVNO

( Editorial: --> 4705 ) LIVNO, Nov 29 (Hina) - UN Human Rights Rapporteur Elisabeth Rehn on Saturday visited Livno where she held talks with municipal and cantonal authorities and representatives of the Bosniak (Muslim) people about the return of displaced persons, ownership issues, functioning of the judicial system and training of the local police, headed by the International Police Task Force (IPTF). After talks with the Herzeg-Bosnian Canton prefect, Mirko Bakovic, and Cantonal Justice Minister, Stipo Babic, Rehn told reporters that every citizen should trust the justice system because it protected the interests of the citizens. Warning that some judicial processes concerning the return of property were not solved, Rehn expressed dissatisfaction regarding the dismissal of 57 Bosniak employees from a company "Li-Bus". She said Croats had replaced them, which, she added, was unacceptable. She also expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the Bosniak side was not participating in bodies of authority because, as she put it, when it comes to national minorities, they should participate in the decision-making process, which is the democratic way. Until all people could return to their houses notwithstanding who they were - Croats, Serbs, Bosniaks or others, there was no respect of human rights, Rehn said. (hina) lm 291954 MET nov 97
