ZAGREB, 15 Nov (Hina) - On the occasion of the Day of Zagreb, 16
November, the Zagreb City Assembly held a formal session in the town
hall on Saturday.
The session was followed by a ceremony at which 15 annual City of
Zagreb awards were presented for achievements in art, sport,
architecture and science.
Participants in the formal session were addressed by the president
of the Zagreb City Assembly, Zlatko Canjuga, mayor Marina
Matulovic-Dropulic and representative of the Croatian President
Franjo Tudjman, Presidential Chief-Of-Staff Hrvoje Sarinic.
Speaking before numerous representatives of the Government,
Parliament, University, Croatian army, religious communities and
Croatia's public life, Canjuga and Matulovic-Dropulic recalled the
long history of Zagreb.
On 16 November 1242, Zagreb got the status of royal city with the
Golden Bull of Bela IV.
On the occasion of the Day of Zagreb, delegations of the City
Assembly and government laid wreaths at the Homeland Altar and in
front of the Cross of Fallen Defenders at the Zagreb cemetery of
Mirogoj.
