SFOR ASKS GUARANTEES OF COMPLIANCE WITH ARMS CONTROL DEAL

( Vidi vijest: 6409 ) SARAJEVO, Oct 28 (Hina) - A spokesman for the NATO-led Stabilisation Force (SFOR) said on Tuesday that the latest arms shipment for the Bosnian Federal Army was being unloaded in the Croatian seaport of Ploce, but added that the arms would not be delivered to the new owners until the NATO command in Bosnia did not receive the confirmation that the Croat-Moslem Federation had fulfilled its obligations under an arms reduction agreement. The spokesman, Chris Riley, said in Sarajevo that the new shipment contained howitzers as part of the U.S.-conducted "Equip and Train" Programme. The SFOR command is expecting the confirmation that the federal party has reduced the artillery as planned. The SFOR spokesman added that it was requested that 10 T-55 Egyptian tanks, unloaded in Ploce last week, be transported to Bosnia. As of Tuesday SFOR will supervise the destruction of 40 tanks stored at Janja near Bijeljina in the Serb-controlled northeastern Bosnian region. According to Riley, these tanks belonged to Bosnian Serb special police, and were reported in line with the heavy arms' control agreement. (hina) jn mš 281730 MET oct 97
