SARAJEVO, Oct 3 (Hina) - UN spokesman in Sarajevo, Aleksandar
Ivanko, told Friday's news conference that the International
Tribunal in The Hague had been informed about reports in the media
that a group of indicted Croats in central Bosnia were allegedly
prepared to surrender themselves to the Tribunal.
The Tribunal in The Hague was ready to, at any time, accept
any person indicted of war crimes, Ivanko said. #L#
Stressing that the Tribunal was familiar with the statement by
Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic who had asked that a war crime
suspect's trial not last more than three to five months, Ivanko said
the prosecutor's office could not guarantee the duration of the
trials.
The prosecutor's office could only ensure that it finished its
part of the job during that period, but the duration of the whole
process depended on the panel of judges, and only when the
defendants appeared before the panel would the date of the trial be
set, he said.
Ivanko added that this was not the first time that reports
appeared, especially in Croatian media, about the alleged readiness
of indicted Croats in the Lasva valley to surrender themselves to
the Hague Tribunal.
