CROATIAN-TURKISH TIES TO BE FURTHER STRENGTHENED - MADEY

ZAGREB, Sept 18 (Hina) - The forthcoming visit of Turkish President Suleyman Demirel to Croatia will confirm good relations between Turkey and Croatia and give an incentive to enhancement of political and, in particular, of economic cooperation between the two countries, Croatian President's advisor on foreign affairs, Neven Madey has said. Demirel will arrive in Croatia on Monday for a three-day official visit, at an invitation of Croatian President Franjo Tudjman The fact that this would be already the fifth meeting between Presidents Tudjman and Demirel testified to good relations and close stands of the two countries, Madey said at a news conference in Zagreb on Thursday. The political talks between Tudjman and Demirel are to revolve round the promotion of bilateral ties, continuation of the peace in Bosnia-Herzegovina and EuroAtlantic associations. The cooperation between Turkey and Croatia had considerably contributed to the implementation of the Dayton peace accord in Bosnia-Herzegovina and to relations between the Croat and Moslem (Bosniak) peoples in the Bosnian Federation, and such results of good Croatian-Turkish relations would be expected in the future as well, Madey told reporters. During his visit to Croatia President Demirel will address the Parliament (Sabor), and a double tax avoidance agreement between the two countries will be signed. About thirty Turkish businessmen, along with President Demirel, will arrive in Croatia to be informed of possibilities of doing business with Croatia. Presidents Tudjman and Demirel will also address members of the Croatia-Turkish economic cooperation council. Turkey is interested in becoming a partner-country at the international autumn trade fair in Zagreb in 1999. Demirel will be awarded a honorary doctorate of Zagreb University during his stay in Croatia. (hina) jn mš 181633 MET sep 97
