ZAGREB, Aug 17 (Hina) - Croatian composer and organist Josip
Magdic recently played in the Oslo cathedral, at the invitation
of a board appointed for marking the cathedral's 300th
anniversary, the Croatian Composers' Association said in a
statement.
Magdic, a regular professor at the Music Academy in Zagreb,
on that occasion played "Oluja" (Storm), a composition the
Norwegian audience and music critics found very impressive, the
statement said.
Magdic's tour of Norway, at which he performed his
compositions written between 1992 and 1995, included concerts in
the St. Cross Church in Bergen, the votive church in Vereide on
the Nordfjord, and the church in Lesjaskog.
Of the compositions, well-received by audiences and the
Norwegian media, "Sarajevske ratne razglednice" (War Postcards
From Sarajevo) and "Oluja" aroused special attention. The latter
was written shortly after the liberation of the largest part of
Croatia's until then Serb-occupied territory, and its title comes
from the liberation operation's name.
As Norwegian soprano Lilleba Lund said after the concert in
Oslo, Magdic's music speaks more eloquently about the war days in
Croatia than media or television reports.
