ZAGREB, Aug 15 (Hina) - The Prosecutor of the International War
Crimes Tribunal in The Hague warned on Friday that a counterfeit
document had been circulated in the UN-administered region of
eastern Croatia according to which the Tribunal was seeking
information on 178 war crimes suspects.
"The Prosecutor, Justice Louise Arbour, states emphatically
that this document did not originate from her office or from
anyone within the Tribunal. It is a complete fabrication, and
absolutely no credence should be attributed to it," the Tribunal
said in a statement.
The statement said that the document had been purportedly
issued by the Prosecutor and the Registrar to the UN Civilian
Police Commissioner in Vukovar.
Arbour said she would immediately initiate an investigation
to identify the source of the document and would take
"appropriate steps in regard to the perpetrators of this
fraudulent act."
