ZAGREB, Aug 14 (Hina) - The State Judicial Council, at the proposal of the
Minister of Justice, on Thursday appointed judges of the County Court in
Vukovar and judges of the municipal courts and the Magistrates' Court in
Beli Manastir.
At the proposal of the State Attorney, the Council also named a
county attorney in Vukovar and deputy municipal attorneys in Vukovar and
Beli Manastir.
State Judicial Council chairman Ante Potrebica said that the
appointments were made after a decision by the Minister of Justice to
increase the number of judges in those courts.
He added that the decision also made it possible for candidates living
in the UN-administered Danube river region to be nominated.
Potrebica stressed that qualifications, experience and ethics, rather
than ethnic origin, were crucial criteria in evaluating the candidates. The
newly-appointed judges are expected to be sworn in later this month.
